Everybody knows WD-40 is the go-to product for silencing squeaks, displacing moisture, preventing rust, and loosening stuck parts. You probably have a can sitting in your garage right now. It has a ton of uses, but did you know it can do these jobs?
Our 14 Jobs for your WD-40:
1. Clear up Crayon
If a child (or naughty adult) has drawn outside the lines and managed to get crayon on the wall, spray a little WD-40 on it.
Take a clean cloth to wipe all the marks away -Sorted!
2. Keeping Wasp Nests Away
Wasps can be a real nightmare once they have built a nest within your home. We believe prevention is better than cure so in order to stop them before they start, try spraying WD-40 into the nooks and crannies of your house.
3. Remove Nuts & Bolts
There’s nothing more annoying when you’re trying to complete a DIY task than coming across a problem to slow you down. Nuts and bolts that are stuck solid can easily be loosened up by spraying a bit of your trusty WD-40 on them.
4. Stop Squirrels eating Bird Food
Are those pesky squirrels stealing all the food you put out for the birds? If so, there’s an easy fix for that… spray WD-40 all over the stand, and they won’t be able to climb up anymore – The birds shall dine once more!
5. Shine Shower Doors
You won’t believe how shiny WD-40 can make your shower door. After your regular cleaning regime, spray WD40 on and let it sit for 20 minutes before wiping off with some paper towels. Your bathroom will look brand new!
6. Stop Animals Rummaging in the Bin
We all know that nightmare of seeing a mess left because a furry little friend has been rummaging in the bins. Animals can’t climb up slippery surfaces though so here’s how to put a stop to that!
If rats, squirrels and other night time creatures keep rummaging in your bins, spray WD-40 up the sides near the base and they won’t stand a chance!
7. Prevent Splinters
No one wants a slpinter, so if you’ve noticed a wooden bannister or object beginning to get rough, it’s time to spring into action. A spray of WD-40 will lubricate and smoothen sharp edges to prevent this from happening.
8. Clean the Fridge
Even the tidiest of fridges can end up in a real mess and that’s why we recommend cleaning yours at least once every 3-6 months. For all those spillages and any stuck on food, give the inside of your fridge a spray of WD-40. Whilst on the subject of the fridge, WD-40 can also remove mildew from refrigerator gaskets. I’m sure we’ve all seen it before, that disgusting gunk build up on your fridge gasket. Simply apply, let it sit for a few minutes, wipe off, and you’re done.
9. Sticky Fingerprints be gone!
Speaking of sticky fingers, if you have little ones at home you will know that no surface is safe. Fingerprints are not only caused by dirty skin, but also the oil that the skin naturally produces. As WD-40 contains solvent, it’s a great degreaser and ideal not only for removing fingerprints but preventing new ones too so simply spray it onto stainless steel surfaces and they’ll never be marked again.
10. Clean Dirty Windowsills
How much attention do we pay our windowsills, not as much as we should I’m sure. Leaves, rain marks and dare we say it, bird poo, can leave our windowsills in a right mess if not cleaned them regularly. A bit of WD-40 will make quick work of even the grimiest windowsills by spraying it on and watching all that dirt slip straight off.
11. Loosen Sticky Drawers
If your drawers have started to stick, chances are they need some lubrication and yes you’ve guessed it, it’s time to grab your can of WD-40 again! Spray it along the runners to help drawers slide seamlessly.
12. Paint Removal
Have you been doing a bit of DIY? Managed to cover yourself in Paint or Super Glue? It can often seem impossible to remove it from your skin, but there’s one miracle product that can make the cleanup easier…WD-40 of course! Spray a small amount onto your hands, massage in, then wash with soap and water.
13. Keep Spiders Away
Have a fear of spiders or just don’t fancy sharing your home with them? Just spray some WD-40 on places where spiders and other bugs can come in, such as windowsills and door frames.
14. Remove Floor Scuff Marks
If mopping doesn’t remove scuff marks from the floor, try spraying some WD-40 on them and then wipe away. The lubricant shouldn’t harm the floor, but we recommend you to test in an inconspicuous place first if you’re concerned.
It can become addictive using WD-40, especially knowing that the cost of using it is significantly less than the standard solution for any particular cleaning or repair job. And, for many of its uses, there really isn’t any cleaning product on the market that does exactly what WD-40 can do. Just keep in mind that WD-40 is flammable and should not be used in closed spaces. Any cleaning job attempted with WD-40 should always be done with adult supervision, however if you aren’t up for tasks and want to call in the professionals, we are here to help! Check out our services and book online or give us a call today and let one of our trained and skilled tradesmen get it done for you.
